Is hot-shoe important for a SLR cam and what does it do?
Yes, it is important but all SLR’s today have one. The hotshoe is where you would mount a flash or radio flash trigger for studio lights. It basically syncs the flash with the camera so that the flash fires when you press the shutter release. There are a few other accessories that would mount to the hotshoe like a GPS unit for example.
